Welcome to Show Me Chow – my name is Jim. I started this blog because I’ve always wanted to create a website. I’ve really enjoyed exploring and learning to use the web design tools that are available. I think it’s really a unique creative outlet and I guess for me, blogging is a means to that end.
I decided on mainly having a food blog since I like to cook and try new recipes (that’s how I decided on the name Show Me Chow). I also live in the town of Plymouth, MI and plan to highlight some of the town’s restaurants, shops, and local events that take place throughout the year. So these are the things I plan to share with you as I start this journey.
Thanks for visiting! If you have any questions or just want to say hi, feel free to leave a comment, send an email to jim (at) showmechow (dot) com or by using the contact form at the bottom of this page.
About My Blog
Disclosure: My blog contains no sponsored posts or paid endorsements. Any opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
Sharing Policy: Everyone is welcome to use my recipes or photos on their site, but please credit me and include a link back to my blog.
Restaurants & Shops: My approach is to do a spotlight or feature article instead of a restaurant review or rating. I try to make these posts informational while sharing the things I like about the places I visit. And if there isn’t much to like, then I just won’t write about them (instead of doing a negative piece). I always ask permission before taking pictures inside of a restaurant and make it a point to do so during times when they aren’t busy, so that I’m not catching random people close up in my shots. So don’t let my photos lead you to believe these restaurants and shops don’t attract many customers – because they do!
Recipes: These are a combination of family recipes, my own creations, and things I’ve discovered somewhere else. When the recipes are from other publications or blogs, I will always give credit and link back to the original source. And hopefully it will be clear in each post I write where the recipe came from – or what my inspiration was behind it.
Photography: I take all pictures on my cell phone, which is a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini with an 8 MP camera. I’m really happy with the picture quality for outdoor shots, especially those taken during the day. But where you really notice the difference compared to a good point and shoot camera are photos taken indoors without much natural light. And since my dining room gets very little natural light and my kitchen none at all, that proves to be a challenge. I have no plans to invest in a nice camera that I would need to carry around with me frequently. But hopefully the quality of my photos will improve as I gain experience.
Most of All: This blog is a hobby and not something I plan on taking too seriously. So I make no promises about the quality of my recipes, photos, or anything else. These are all things I enjoy, so my plan is to have fun while sharing these experiences with you through my blog. And I hope you like them too!
